From time to time, we get the question “Does anyone working at Medtronic live with diabetes or have family members who do?” The answer is a very big yes! We have many people here for whom the Medtronic mission hits especially close to home. One of those people is Lane Desborough and, in addition to his job as a diabetes dad, he has a very exciting role here at Medtronic. After a 25-year career as a control engineer working to help make oil refineries and chemical plants run more safely and efficiently and the smart grid more reliable, Lane joined Medtronic following his son’s diagnosis with type 1 diabetes. Now, as a product strategist, he’s applying his expertise in closed loop systems, human factors, and systems engineering to the development of an artificial pancreas. To find out more about his work and Medtronic’s efforts toward the development of an artificial pancreas system, be sure to tune in to TuDiabetes on Friday, February 8 at 4pm EST/1pm PST.
In addition, we’re offering viewers of the live interview who sign up for more information from the Diabetes Hands Foundation and Medtronic, a Free Lenny® the Lion educational plush (while supplies last/limit one book per household).
